Secret Window

(2005 / R)

This film is based off of a Stephen King short story by the same name. I know I read this story when I was younger, but going into this movie I had only the vaguest recollection on what the story/movie was about. So I can't really say how faithful this movie is to the story...I'll have to judge it soley on it's own rights...

Johnny Depp stars as author Mort Rainey. Mort is going through a messy divorce, and has isolated himself at his cabin by the lake, where he is working on his writing. A mysterious and menacing stranger by the name of John Shooter soon appears. Shooter accuses Rainey of stealing his story. Mort however clearly remembers writing the story himself a good two years prior to when Shooter claims he wrote the story. Shooter agrees to give Mort 3 days to find proof that he wrote it first, but during this time Shooter becomes increasingly belligerent and psychotic. The story comes to a climax when Mort realizes that everything is not exactly as it may seem to be... here comes the twist everybody....

wait for it....

wait for it....

You don't really think I'm just gonna give away the plot do you? I didn't dislike this movie that much! This movie was just "okay"...not bad, not great, and in all honestly it was better than I thought it'd be... I just had really low expectations going in. Johnny Depp does a credible job as Mort, and whomever it was that plays Shooter...what was his name?...John Turturo! Yeah, John Turturo was pretty cool as the pscyho stalking hick!

This was a middle of the road horror flick, so It gets a middle of the road rating. While not great, this movie is not a wasted rental.
