Rock N' Roll Nightmare(1986 / R)
This movie is freakin' awesome! It's so horribly awful that it's brilliant! And the best part about it is that I know it was supposed to be a "serious" horror film! I mean these people thought they were making a good movie! Un-freakin-belieavable!
Rock N' Roll Nightmare is the story of the 80's hair metal band "Triton". Triton travels to an old country home (in Canada) where they plan on rehearsing for the next six weeks. They need to come up w/ 10 minutes of "good" material in the next 6 weeks... how shitty of a band ARE these guys?...I mean seriously...their genre is hair metal, and it's gonna take them 6 weeks to come up w/ 10 minutes of good material? I love it!
This movie was actually made by Jon Mikl Thor (who plays the lead "John Triton" in the film) who is in real life the lead singer for the Canadian metal band "Thor". The soundtrack is done entirely by "Thor". So at times the movie seems to play as a long drawn out music video for Mikl Thor's band. The music is typical cheesy over the top hair metal. With song title's like "We live to Rock" & "Accept the Challeng", you've gotta love it!
So anyways, back to the story... so as Triton tries to rehearse the band members, their manager, & their girlfriends all slowly start to disappear. "Demons" are slowly killing off everybody, and pretty soon only John Triton is left.
In the best part of the movie, John Triton confronts the "bad guy" and is assaulted by his minions... I hesitate to give this part away as it is truly hilarious... but the bad-guys minions are these starfish like creatures w/ one eye that look like they are made w/ play-doh! Pretty damned scary! Man I love this movie!
The dialog is bad, the acting is bad, there are a ton of drawn out shots of NOTHING HAPPENING! The effects are cheesy, there is nothing scary about the film, and the soundtrack is ridiculous! This movie is a riot to watch! I love it! It never gets old! The only way I would'nt recommend this movie is if you have a stick stuck up your ass and/or are a movie snob who wouldn't appreciate the b-movie brilliance that is this film.
