High Tension

(2003 / R)

Also known as "Haute Tension".

"Two female college students, Marie and Alexa, set off to Alex's parent's secluded homestead in the country to relax and study. Come nightfall, Hell pulls up at the front door when a mysterious killer breaks in and kills Alexa's father, mother, brother and pet dog. Alex is now bound and gagged, taken off by the killer, with Marie not far behind eluding the intruder. Can she save her friend's life in time? Or is everything all that it seems...?" (imdb.com)

If you like your slasher films brutal, bloody, twisted, and downright sick, then this movie is for you. One of the better pure slasher films in recent memory, High Tension doesn't pull any punches. The hype surrounding this french film actually lived up to the end product! How often does that ever happen?!

This is one of those horror movies that has you questioning if there's something wrong with you for liking it. When you find yourself grinning and thinking, "now that's an inventive way to kill someone", is that a bad sign?

The only bad thing I can say about this movie is that when the twist is revealed at the end, a gaping plot hole is also revealed which is really just unexplainable by my estimation (the only estimation that matters here). However, even with the gaping plot hole this is still a fine and sick piece of work!
