Funny Games(1997 / R)
A cruel cruel film in which the audience is forced to watch as two young men brutally terrorize a family who is vacationing at their (the family's) lake house. The movie starts off slowly but very quickly takes a sadistic turn that never lets up.
Even when you think something good has happened to the family... it's just another sick ploy by the two young men... this movie is relentless in it's hopelessness...
This film is not for the weak of heart... Not quite as grim as Last House on the Left (this movie attempts at some very very dark humor).
What sets this movie apart from Last House on the Left is that the two killers actually interact w/ you, the audience as they terrorize the family... making you a witness, and in a sense accomplice to their doings... They are "performing" for you... and you are therefore the reason for the family's demise... Pretty sick, but also fairly brilliant... I give it 4 Bruce Campbell heads!
