The Crazies(1973 / R)
I absolutely love George Romero's living dead movies. So I probably went into the Crazies with unrealistic expectations. Would it be as good as him dead quadrilogy? Well it's not as good. But it's not that bad either.
A small Pennsylvania town it turned upside down when a biological weapon gets loose and military shows up to quarantine the area. Those that are infected slowly go crazy and turn homicidal before they die.
The movie is rather dark and wasn't a "happy ending" film. The main story follows three folks on the run from the military (one gal whose pregnant, her boyfriend, and his best buddy). The best buddy becomes infected and slowly spirals down into madness. The movie is very bleak and the scenario is actually presented in a very realistic fashion.
I'd recommend this movie mostly for fans of Romero (that's the only reason I watched it). It's not as good as his zombie films, and it looks quite a bit dated, however it's definately worth a spin.
