Baptism of Blood

(1996 / R)

This mishmash of a movie tackles what could have been an interesting topic... A movie-star with a disfiguring skin-condition retires to raise her beautiful daughter. Once the daughter reaches her teens, the mother forces the daughter into a procedure whereby the daughters brain is removed and disposed of and the mother's brain is inserted into the young and perfect daughter's body! The mother has seemingly staved off death for many more years and has removed herself from her hideous disease-ridden body!

This is where the movie could have really shined. What does the mother do with her newfound youth and health? How does she hide the fact that she's not really the daughter? How does she account for her missing mother? Well the film does tackle some of these questions, but in a convoluted and nonsensicle plot-line that turns from creepy horror flick to psychological crime-drama with a lame twist akin to "it was all just a dream"....

It started out w/ a promising premise, but in the end I can only muster 2 Bruce Campbell heads for this one. Avoid it.
