Day of the Dead

(2008 / R)

"When a small Colorado town is overrun by the flesh hungry dead a small group of survivors try to escape in a last ditch effort to stay alive." (imdb.com)

Okay here's the thing with this one...it's not a half bad zombie movie! The problem is they called it "Day of the Dead". It has virtually nothing to do with the original (the 3rd in his dead series and my personal favorite). So if you go into this movie expecting a remake you will be sorely dissapointed. I was following the development of this film for a while so I was aware of it's criticism and it's complete departure from the original movie. That being the case I was able to enjoy this movie for what it was...a fairly decent, and very gory zombie movie!

This one went staight to video too! But you can tell from the production quality that they intended this one for theaters. As far as direct to video horror schlock goes...this is at the top. So all that being said, I'd definately recommend this movie to any zombie fan, so long as you know ahead of time that this isn't really a remake of Romero's film. If I had to review this as a remake of the original then it'd rate very lowly, but since I'm such an incredibly open-minded individual I'll give it 3 1/2 Bruce Campbell heads!
