Pandorum

(2009 / R)

"Two astronauts awaken in a hyper-sleep chamber aboard a seemingly abandoned spacecraft. It`s pitch black, they are disoriented, and the only sound is a low rumble and creak from the belly of the ship. They can`t remember anything: Who are they? What is their mission? With Lt. Payton staying behind to guide him via radio transmitter, Cpl. Bower ventures deep into the ship and begins to uncover a terrifying reality. Slowly the spacecraft`s shocking, deadly secrets are revealed...and the astronauts find their own survival is more important than they could ever have imagined." (imdb.com)

I`ve been on a bit of a roll lately with horror movies. The past three (this being the 3rd) have all been well above average...with two of them being exceptional. This was one of the exceptional ones.

I loved the idea of this movie...just the concept of combining the end of the world with the unknown of deep space and a dash of claustrophobia, gore, and visceral terror...something about that just speaks to me...but I guess that`s my problem.

The only fault I can find with this movie is that I wish they`d shown me more...I wanted to know more about the terror/depravity that Dennis Quaid laid on the ships inhabitants prior to his deep sleep... I also wish they had dwelled more on perhaps the most terrifying aspect of this movie...what it was like for thos unfortunate enough to be woken from cryo sleep only to be immediately slaughtered by the ship`s mutant population...the one scene showing this was awful and haunting at the same time.

Great movie...check it out if you havn`t already!
